How it works
CONTOUR PLUS delivers Celluma's three fixed wavelengths, blue at 465 nm, red at 640 nm and near-infrared at 880 nm, through a modular multi-panel system built from a patented flexible panel that takes the shape of the area it treats.
In Contour mode specifically, only two of the device's three wavelengths are used, red and near-infrared. Celluma states that this light penetrates into the subcutaneous layer and activates adipocytes, creating temporary pores in the fat cell membrane, which lets lipids leak out of the cell and clear through the body's normal metabolic processes.

Three panel sizes, each for a different area
The base panel is 24 by 10 inches, with built-in stands for facial treatment. The two large wings, 20 by 10 inches each, wrap around the thighs and body, and the small wing, 16 by 8 inches, covers the scalp and targeted areas.

What is the difference between CONTOUR PLUS and CONTOUR?
CONTOUR PLUS adds an extra mode for hair, and an additional small panel for the scalp or targeted body treatments. The CONTOUR does not have Hair mode or the extra small panel.
Can Contour mode be used on the face?
No. Celluma states that the power density required for body contouring is different from what is needed to reduce wrinkles, and that the fat in the face has a different structure from fat stored elsewhere in the body. Wrinkles mode is used on the face instead.
How long does it take to see results from Contour mode, and how long do they last?
Celluma describes the effect on fat cells as immediate, though results vary by person and improve with cumulative treatments. Celluma's official protocol is 3 sessions a week for 4 weeks; most users report a result after one treatment, and Celluma states you may need to continue using Contour mode regularly to maintain that result. In an observational study Celluma cites over 4 weeks, participants lost more than 2 inches (5 cm) off their waist and 1 inch (2.5 cm) off each thigh, and also reported less back and knee pain.
Do the Acne, Wrinkles, Hair Growth or Pain modes also reduce body fat?
Celluma does not publish that they do. Celluma states that the other modes have not been tested for body contouring and may not produce the same results as Contour mode.
